A damaged impeller and/or wear ring can disrupt the flow of water through the pump, causing a cavitation state. This is often compared to the feeling of a slipping transmission, or bald tires on a car.

PWC jet pumps are equipped with bearings to keep everything in alignment. Over time, these bearings go bad, potentially allowing water into the bearings and displacing the grease. When jet pump bearings go out, it can cause the driveline to go out of alignment, potentially causing a domino effect of damage all the way to the motor.

The driveshaft is the connecting piece between the engine and the jet pump. It is vital to have a healthy driveshaft to ensure both the engine and the propulsion system are working properly. Over time, or with rough use, the driveshaft splines can strip, causing a cavitation state, similar to a slipping transmission.
